Freya was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing seizures and developmental delays, after experiencing her first two seizures when she was just four months old.
Supported by her mom Carly through Citizen Care’s Medically Complex Conditions Life Sharing program, Freya may have Dravet Syndrome, but Dravet Syndrome doesn’t “have” her! Even with all of Freya’s setbacks she remains a joyful, smiley, fun little girl! She loves being outdoors, caring for her animals, harvesting tomatoes from her garden and going for buggy rides. This super-helper thinks chores are fun and believes that singing and dancing make them even more fun. Despite the constant, specialized care that Dravet requires, Freya makes the most of her days while bringing constant love, smiles and laughter to her family and caregivers.
Carly, Freya’s mom and Life Sharing Partner shared, “We want Freya to be fully supported through all her complex medical and developmental needs. Since her diagnosis, she experiences so many things that ‘take away’ from the normalcy of a typical childhood. Therefore, it is important for us to provide all the opportunities we can for her, in her regular home setting, to set her up for success while still allowing her to just be a kid”.
